With their recent purchase of the Stoddard Building, renamed The Louie, the shared history of the two buildings continues. This set the stage for investments by the Boji Group in Lansing for the next two decades and beyond. Louie, who had immigrated from Iraq in pursuit of the American dream, made an investment in his family’s future and Michigan’s capital city. In 1998, Boji family patriarch Eliya (Louie) Boji and son Ron Boji, purchased the tower. The clock still greets visitors to this day. The glowing clock and Michigan National Bank signage situated atop the building would remain an iconic sight, welcoming visitors to the state’s capital for decades. Stoddard, would go on to construct the Stoddard Building across the street. In 1954 the building was sold to the Michigan National Bank and renamed the Michigan National Bank Tower. A 1931 Lansing State Journal write-up described the completion of the building and the bank’s success, “That the Capital National Bank has grown to its present proportions is due to its good fortune in being directed throughout its history by men to whom Lansing’s welfare has always been a matter of warm personal concern.” Olds and named for the Capital National Bank which would occupy the majority of the lower floors. The bronze doors of the elevators are still adorned with scenes from this manufacturing giant’s life.Ĭalled the Olds Tower by many, the building was officially known as the Capital Bank Tower and completed in 1931. In fact, the Lansing City Council amended an ordinance prohibiting buildings from being taller than 150 feet to accommodate its construction. At the time of its construction it was the tallest building in Michigan outside of Detroit and remains the tallest in Lansing. Standing at the intersection of Michigan politics and American manufacturing, the Boji Tower serves as a monument to the hard-working men and women of Michigan. ![]()
